Such vehicles were built using standard closed bodies in various versions. The interior of the bodies could be adapted to meet different needs – for example, to carry four stretchers with patients, or to combine stretchers and seats. Wide doors in the rear of the body facilitated the process of loading stretchers inside. The ambulances had large white circles with red crosses to facilitate identification, a detail that was of great importance in the context of possible military operations. As in the case of standard general-purpose vans, different versions of the bodies appeared during operation, with differences in the details of the roof, windows, and so on.

Due to their excellent cross-country ability and good performance, these vehicles were in service with the Bundeswehr for many years. According to various estimates, the total number of Unimog S 404 ambulances produced is about 2,000.

Model Features

Model of the military ambulance based on the Unimog S 404

Two version of the body

Two verisons of body windows (with or without protective panels)

Four version decal sheet included

Markings Available

Unimog S 404 Krankenwagen, unknown unit of the Bundeswehr, 1960s

Unimog S 404 Krankenwagen, 5th Company, 3rd Medical Battalion, Hamburg, 1970s

Unimog S 404 Krankenwagen, 2nd Company, 3rd Medical Battalion, Esslingen, early 1980s

Unimog S 404 Krankenwagen, 4th Company, 12th Medical Battalion, 12th Panzer Division, 1986

Model Information

Scale: 1:35

Number of Parts: 293

Length: 145 mm

Height: 81 mm

Includes detailed assembly instructions

Highly detailed sprues with high accuracy made from quality plastic

Box size: 295 x 225 x 40 mm

At a glance

Scale: 1:35

Type: Assembly Kit

Subject: Military Ambulance

Nation: German

Era: 1970s

Brand: ICM

Product code: ICM35138

Supplied unassembled and unpainted.
