Hive Guard are the swarm's dug-in gunners — heavily armoured bio-sentries bonded to symbiotic cannons that reach out and delete threats before they get close. They don't even need line of sight for their impaler cannons, which makes them one of the most reliably annoying shooting units the Tyranids can field. And the same box builds close-protection Tyrant Guard, so it's flexible value on the sprue.
Build them as ranged Hive Guard or turn the box into a bodyguard of Tyrant Guard for your big synapse beast — either way it earns its slot.
