Adeptus Astartes · Angels of Death
Blood Angels
Angelic warriors hiding a terrible thirst — masters of the lightning assault.
About Blood Angels — Lore & How They Play
The Lore
Sons of Sanguinius, the winged Primarch who died at Horus's hand defending the Emperor — and left his Chapter two curses. The Red Thirst, a hunger for blood held at bay by ritual and iron discipline; and the Black Rage, which drags the afflicted into the Death Company to relive their Primarch's death and seek a glorious end.
From irradiated Baal they wage war as angels: gothic, beautiful and one bad day from monstrous. No Chapter carries more tragedy — or wears it with more style.
On the Tabletop
On the table the Blood Angels are the Astartes at their most aggressive: jump-pack Assault Intercessors, Sanguinary Guard, the Death Company and heroes like Dante closing the gap fast and butchering whatever they land on. The Liberator Assault Group detachment pays you for advancing and charging.
Play them like a spear, not a shield — commit hard, pick the fights that win objectives, and never leave an assault unit stranded in the open after a failed charge.
The Blood Angels are Sanguinius' noble, tragic sons: a Space Marine Chapter of artists and warriors who hide a terrible flaw, the Red Thirst and the Black Rage. Red armour, golden wings and a fast, jump-pack-heavy melee style make them one of the most popular chapters in the game.

Are Blood Angels Space Marines?
Yes, a First Founding Chapter. Codex Supplement: Blood Angels is designed to be used alongside Codex: Space Marines.
Do Blood Angels need jump packs?
Not essential, but jump pack units suit their fast, aggressive style and look fantastic in red.
Is red armour hard to paint?
Red covers best over a warm primer and a couple of thin coats. Contrast and Tone Pro reds make it much quicker than it used to be.
