The Lore
Daemons are not creatures but ideas with teeth: fragments of the four Dark Gods given shape from the stuff of the Warp. Khorne's Bloodletters, Tzeentch's shifting Horrors, Nurgle's cheerfully rotting Plaguebearers and Slaanesh's swift Daemonettes each embody their master's nature — and answer to Greater Daemons that are calamities in person.
Where the veil between worlds grows thin they pour into reality, and the laws of physics file a complaint that is never read.
On the Tabletop
Four armies in a trenchcoat: mono-god forces play wildly differently — Khorne's melee avalanche, Nurgle's resilient creep, Tzeentch's magic and shooting, Slaanesh's speed — or you can mix the pantheon for flexibility. The Shadow of Chaos makes the battlefield itself hostile around your units.
