Neutral Grey is the quiet workhorse of the oil box — the shade you reach for when you want believable highlights and shadows without shifting the colour underneath. It comes into its own on ships, aircraft, sci-fi hulls and figures in dark uniforms, and it's just as happy pushed into a wash or filter to knock back reds, yellows, blacks and blues.
Best for
Highlights and shadows on ships, planes and sci-fi vehicles
Figures in dark uniforms
Washes and filters over reds, yellows, blacks and blues
Toning down over-bright camouflage greys
Because oils stay workable for hours, you can blend straight on the model and keep adjusting until the transition looks right — no hard edges, just smooth, believable depth.
A cornerstone grey every paint box should have. Pairs naturally with the rest of the Abteilung 502 oil range for building your own blending set.
