Which booster is which
- Play Boosters — the standard pack since 2024, built for drafting and for opening. If someone just says "a booster", this is it
- Collector Boosters — fewer packs, far more foils, alternate art and serialised cards. For collectors rather than players
- A booster box — typically 30 Play Boosters, and the cheapest way to buy packs per-pack. Enough for a draft night with friends
- Bundles — packs plus lands, a spindown die and a storage box. The friendliest way into a new set
Formats, and where to start
Commander is the format that has taken over — 100-card singleton decks, four players, one legendary creature in charge, and the reason most people come back to Magic after years away. Preconstructed Commander decks are playable out of the box and are far and away the best first purchase. Standard is the competitive rotating format if you would rather build from current sets, and Draft is the one to try if you want a night out rather than a deck.
Beyond the main sets
Universes Beyond crossovers now sit alongside the core releases — our MTG: Marvel Super Heroes range is the current one, and they tend to sell through faster than standard sets because they pull in collectors as well as players.
New sets go up for pre-order as soon as they are announced, which is the only dependable way to secure launch-day stock.
