Wondering where to buy Warhammer in the UK without paying full whack? Sensible. Games Workshop makes magnificent plastic and prices it accordingly — but here's the thing most new hobbyists don't realise: almost nobody who's been in the hobby longer than a fortnight pays RRP. A whole ecosystem of independent UK retailers sells the same boxes at a discount, and today we're naming names and quoting real prices. Including the ones that occasionally beat ours. Brace yourselves.
The short version
Buy from Games Workshop directly when you need something only they sell. For everything else, buy from a UK independent and save 10–16% — the main players are Element Games, Wayland Games, Firestorm Games, Goblin Gaming, Zatu and, yes, us. The price gaps between independents are usually a couple of quid, so the real decision comes down to shipping, dispatch speed, returns and rewards. We'll get to that.
Buying from Games Workshop directly
GW's own website and stores charge full RRP, every time, forever. That's £105 for a current Combat Patrol. You're not paying that for better service — you're paying it for access. Buy direct when you want web-exclusive miniatures, Made to Order resurrections of ancient sculpts, or a chat with your local store manager who will absolutely remember your name and your pile of shame.
For anything that isn't an exclusive, buying from GW at RRP is the cardboard equivalent of paying full price for a sofa at DFS. The sale exists. It's always on. Use it.
The UK independents: who's who
These are the retailers that dominate the "cheap Warhammer UK" conversation, and what they're known for:
- Element Games: the Stockport giant. Typically 15% off GW, free first-class UK delivery, enormous range.
- Wayland Games: the Essex warehouse. Huge catalogue across every games system, discounts in the same ballpark.
- Firestorm Games: Cardiff's finest, with a proper gaming venue attached. Usually around 12% off, free UK shipping over £60.
- Goblin Gaming: 15% off GW as standard, well liked for service.
- Zatu Games: board game specialist that also does sharp Warhammer pricing — often the cheapest sticker price on the page.
- Loaded Dice: that's us — South Wales based, 8,000+ products in stock, next-day dispatch on everything, 60-day no-quibble returns, and store credit on every order through The Chamber.
The price check: a Combat Patrol, priced everywhere
Talk is cheap, so let's talk real numbers. Take Combat Patrol: Grey Knights — RRP £105. Across the UK independents it typically lands in the high-£80s to low-£90s: we're £91.99, and the likes of Element, Zatu and Goblin Gaming usually sit within a couple of quid either side. Games Workshop, as ever, wants the full £105.
The headline isn't which independent is 30p cheaper this week — it's that every one of us saves you £12–17 against buying direct, and the gaps between us are roughly the price of a meal deal. Worth knowing: Games Workshop's September 2026 price rise is working through every retailer at its own pace, so exact stickers shift week to week — the ranges here are the reliable picture, not a frozen snapshot. Where it really gets interesting is everything that happens after you click "buy". More on that below.
The new edition Starter Set: same story, bigger box
The box everyone actually wants right now is the new Warhammer 40,000: Starter Set (11th Edition) — RRP £155, and Games Workshop will cheerfully charge you every penny of it. The independents cluster in the low £130s, and we're at £134.99 — around £20 off RRP, within a takeaway coffee or two of the cheapest, and with next-day dispatch the moment it's in the building.
Want in for less? The outgoing Ultimate Starter Set is still on our shelf at £103.49 against a £160 RRP — and since GW no longer supplies it to trade, once independent stock is gone it's full-price-direct-only forever. The Chamber: the discount that keeps growing
Here's the bit a single price check can't show you. Every order with us earns automatic store credit through The Chamber, our loyalty scheme, and the rate climbs with your lifetime spend:
- Level I (£0–£99 lifetime spend): 1% store credit on purchases
- Level II (£100–£249): 2%
- Level III (£250–£499): 3%
- Level IV (£500–£999): 4%
- Level V (£1,000–£1,999): 5%
- Level VI (£2,000+): 6%
No points to convert, no vouchers to dig out of a spam folder — the credit lands automatically and comes off future orders. It's retroactive too: shopped with us before? Your previous purchases already count towards your level. And the levels come with perks, special offers and free gifts on top.
Now do the maths on that starter set. At Level VI, £134.99 earns you £8.10 back — comfortably more than the gap to the cheapest independent, and it keeps stacking with every order. Two Combat Patrols gets you to Level II; one decent army project gets you to Level IV. And if £2,000 lifetime spend sounds far-fetched, we gently remind you that you already own three unpainted armies.
Beyond the sticker price
Once the prices are within a few quid of each other, the sensible comparison shifts to everything else:
- Delivery: Element offers free first-class UK delivery; Firestorm is free over £60; we're free over £65 with next-day shipping on everything in stock. If you need it for Saturday's game, dispatch speed matters more than £2.74.
- Returns: we give you 60 days, no quibble. Handy when you impulse-buy a second army at 1am. It happens to the best of us.
- Rewards: The Chamber (above) hands back 1–6% of every order as automatic store credit. Element runs a crystal-based scheme; most others offer nothing at all.
- Stock honesty: a discount on a box that's perpetually "awaiting supplier" is not a discount. Check stock indicators before you fall in love.
So where should you buy Warhammer?
Honest answer: if the absolute lowest price on a specific box is all that matters, shop around — sometimes that's us, sometimes it's Element or Zatu, and now you know exactly what everyone charges. If you want big-box savings, next-day dispatch, two months to change your mind and store credit stacking up for the next addition to your Warhammer collection, we'd argue the maths lands our way.
