The sandy upper tone of the Luftwaffe's desert war. RLM 79 was introduced around spring 1941 for the upper surfaces of German aircraft in North Africa and the Mediterranean, and it also appeared on tropical-finished machines sent to the Eastern Front. Over an RLM 78 underside, it's the colour that says Afrika Korps airpower.
Best for
Upper surfaces of Luftwaffe tropical aircraft, 1941 onward
North Africa and Mediterranean theatres
Tropical-finished machines on the Eastern Front
Fade and dust it hard — desert machines took a beating from the sun and sand, and a well-worn RLM 79 finish looks fantastic.
The sand tone of the desert Luftwaffe. Pair it with RLM 78 and RLM 80 from the AK Real Colors range.
