JoyToy Warhammer Figures: The Collector's Guide to the 1/18 Range

You have painted the same Intercessor for three weekends, and he still looks like he lost a fight with a bag of flour. Meanwhile, someone on the internet has a shelf of Space Marines with knee pads that bend, fingers that grip, and paint jobs cleaner than a Tech-Priest's conscience. That is not a miracle. That is JoyToy.

This guide covers what JoyToy Warhammer figures actually are, how the scales work, which ranges are worth your money, and where to start without accidentally spending your mortgage on Primarchs. What is JoyToy?

JoyToy is a Chinese collectibles maker that holds an official Games Workshop licence to produce Warhammer action figures. Not bootlegs, not a grey-market side hustle: officially licensed, with the Games Workshop licence mark on the box.

What makes them different from the plastic you know and love is simple. They arrive fully assembled and factory painted. No clippers, no glue, no undercoat, no two-hour argument with a Nuln Oil wash. Every figure is articulated, and most come with interchangeable hands and weapon options, so your Terminator can hold a storm bolter on Monday and a power sword on Tuesday.

Warhammer figures vs Warhammer miniatures

Quick one, because it catches people out. When most people say Warhammer, they mean the 28mm-ish plastic kits you build, paint and play the tabletop game with. Those are miniatures, and we stock a mountain of them in our Warhammer 40,000 and Horus Heresy ranges.

JoyToy figures are something else entirely:

• Purpose: display and collecting, not tabletop gaming.
• Size: roughly five times the height of a standard Space Marine miniature.
• Effort: none. Open box, pose, admire.
• Who buys them: collectors, Space Marine 2 fans, and hobbyists who want their favourite chapter on the shelf without the pile of shame getting any taller.

JoyToy scale explained

JoyToy works in 1/18 scale, which is the classic action figure scale. Because Space Marines are enormous, that translates to figures a bit taller than you might expect. Here is roughly what to expect across the range:

• Space Marines and Legionaries: around 12 to 14cm. Intercessors, Tactical Legionaries and most Terminators live here.
• Imperial Guard: around 10 to 11cm. The Death Korps of Krieg are, fittingly, a bit smaller and a lot grimmer.
• Primarchs: anywhere from 12cm to 28cm, depending on the demigod in question and how many wings they have grown.
• Big centrepieces: the Redemptor Dreadnought stands around 30cm, Angron comes in at a terrifying 45cm, and the House Raven Knight Errant towers at 56cm.
• Vehicles: combat bikes, Predators and a Razorback, all built to carry or sit alongside the 1/18 figures.

One honest warning: shelf space disappears faster than a Guardsman in a Tyranid invasion. Measure before you buy the Knight.

The JoyToy Warhammer ranges

JoyToy has built out a serious catalogue, and it roughly splits into five camps (browse the lot in our Warhammer action figures collection):

• Warhammer 40,000: Intercessors, Heavy Intercessors and Terminators across the big chapters, including Ultramarines, Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Imperial Fists, Raven Guard and White Scars. Pick your chapter, build a squad.

JoyToy Warhammer helmets

Where to start with JoyToy

Step 1: Pick your allegiance

• Already play or paint a faction? Start there. Nothing ties a collection together like a JoyToy figure of the army you have been building for years.
• Came in through Space Marine 2? Titus is the obvious first figure, and nobody will judge you for it.

Step 2: Decide between squad or statement

• Squad: start with a single Intercessor or Tactical Legionary, then add to it. Cheaper entry, and a row of matching marines looks superb.
• Statement: go straight for a Primarch or Dreadnought. One big piece, maximum shelf impact.

Step 3: Check stock versus pre-order

Step 4: Avoid the knock-offs

• Fakes exist, and they are usually given away by suspiciously low prices and paint that looks like it was applied during an earthquake. Look for the official Games Workshop licence mark and buy from a stockist you trust.

Are JoyToy Warhammer figures worth it?

If you want a Warhammer collection that looks finished on day one, yes. The paint quality is consistently strong, the articulation is genuinely good, and the licence means the details are right, down to the purity seals and chapter markings.

If you want to play the tabletop game, no. They are the wrong scale, and your opponent will have questions. Stick with the miniatures for that, and treat JoyToy as the trophy cabinet.

JoyToy has done something clever: it has made the Warhammer universe collectable for people who love the setting but will never own a paintbrush, and given the rest of us an excuse to finally display something we did not have to finish ourselves.
