Who are the Seraphon?
Ancient, cold-blooded servants of cosmic order, the Seraphon are celestial lizardmen who march to war under the will of the star-gods. Wise Slann mages direct disciplined Saurus warriors, skittering Skink skirmishers and — best of all — enormous dinosaurs. In Warhammer Age of Sigmar they're one of the most versatile and visually spectacular armies going: equal parts powerful magic and stomping monsters.
The Core Fantasy
Seraphon are the versatile cosmic army of the Mortal Realms: a force that can lean into devastating magic, monstrous dinosaurs, disciplined infantry, or all three at once. This is the fantasy of order made manifest — wise, ancient and utterly in command of the battlefield (with dinosaurs, which never stops being brilliant).
Expect:
- Powerful magic led by the legendary Slann
- Enormous dinosaur monsters as centrepieces
- A genuinely flexible toolkit — many ways to build and play
- Summoning and battlefield-control tricks

How They Play on the Tabletop
The Seraphon plan depends on how you build them. A Slann-led force dominates the magic phase and bends the game to its will; a Saurus army grinds forward with disciplined melee; a dino-heavy list simply stomps everything flat. Most players blend these — magic to control, monsters to smash, Skinks to grab objectives — for a flexible, hard-to-counter whole.
What you'll love:
- Flexibility: multiple distinct, viable ways to play one army
- Magic: the Slann are among the finest wizards in the realms
- Monsters: dinosaurs that hit as hard as they look
What can bite you:
- Jack-of-all-trades: a muddled list can lack a clear win condition
- Complexity: so much choice takes time to master
- Fragile Skinks: your cheap troops won't stand toe-to-toe for long
Cold Blood, Cosmic Will
The Seraphon signature is the Slann and their command of the heavens: serene, all-powerful mages who unleash potent spells, summon reinforcements, and direct the battle with cosmic authority. Pair that magical mastery with a wall of dinosaurs and you have an army that can answer almost any threat — the question is simply which tools you bring.
As champions of Order, they share the realms with Sigmar's other defenders. For the immortal heavy infantry who often fight beside them, see our Stormcast Eternals army analysis; for nature's own ambushers, compare the Sylvaneth.
Key Unit Roles (What You'll Commonly Need)
Forget memorising every warscroll. Think in jobs:
1) The Skirmishers (Skinks)
Fast, cheap lizards to grab objectives, screen your big models, and chip away at the enemy. Numerous and expendable.
2) The Line (Saurus warriors)
Disciplined, durable melee infantry to hold ground and anchor the centre.
3) The Monsters (dinosaurs)
Carnosaurs, Bastiladons and Stegadons — your hard-hitting, resilient centrepieces and the army's stomping heart.
4) The Casters (Slann and priests)
Your magical engine — powerful wizards who dominate the magic phase, summon support, and control the game.

Getting Started the Smart Way
Building Seraphon from scratch? Build a balanced core, then lean into magic or monsters as you go. Aim for:
Step 1: A unit of Skinks
- Your fast, cheap objective-grabbers and screens. The unsung workers of the army.
Step 2: A block of Saurus Warriors
- Your disciplined melee core to hold the line and anchor the centre.
Step 3: A dinosaur
- One big monster centrepiece to add punch and presence — and a spectacular paint project.
Step 4: A Slann or Skink Starpriest
- Your magical engine to control the game and unlock the army's full potential.
Cover those four jobs and you've got a flexible, spectacular army that can grow in any direction. New to the brushes? Our beginner painting guide will get those vivid scales and cosmic blues started.
Common Beginner Mistakes (Avoid These)
- Building a muddled list. Pick a clear plan — magic, monsters or melee — and support it.
- Exposing your Skinks. They're fragile — use them to grab and screen, not to brawl.
- Underusing your Slann. Your wizards are the army's brain — cast and summon aggressively.
- Ignoring objectives. Stomping the enemy still loses if you don't hold the points.
Who the Seraphon are For
"Choose the Seraphon if you want a flexible, spectacular army that blends top-tier magic with stomping dinosaurs and disciplined infantry — many ways to build, many ways to win. Give them a miss if you want one simple, focused trick or a low-effort learning curve; their strength is variety, and variety takes mastery. Seraphon reward smart list-building and clever magic. Channel the stars — and send in the dinosaurs."
