Root: The Clockwork Expansion

Root's asymmetry is the whole appeal, but sometimes you're short a player, or fancy the woodland turning on you instead. The Clockwork Expansion answers both with four fully automated factions that slot straight into the base game — bring one along to fill an empty seat, gang up against it as a co-op challenge, or throw all four into the mix for chaos. It's the expansion that means Root's playable whenever, however you can get it to the table.

What's in the box

• Automated versions of all four base-game factions: the Mechanical Marquise 2.0, Electrical Eyrie, Automated Alliance and Vagabot
• Three difficulty levels per faction, so the challenge scales with your group
• Extra traits per faction for added variety between games
• Fully compatible with Root's other expansions

How it plays

• Each clockwork faction runs off simple flowcharts — no extra player needed to control it
• Use one to round out a smaller game, team up against it co-operatively, or stack several for a fully automated table
• Swap difficulty levels to keep even seasoned Root veterans on their toes

However your group's numbers shake out on any given game night, this is the expansion that means Root's always playable — solo included.
