Ugears Wooden Model Kit Lighthouse of Alexandria

Bring history to light when you build the Lighthouse of Alexandria from Ugears! This majestic wooden model lighthouse is an imaginative recreation of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World—the giant lighthouse built by Ptolemy I and Ptolemy II in the third century BCE at the western edge of the Nile River delta in Egypt. In a first for Ugears, the Lighthouse of Alexandria has electrical components that light the model from within, making it a beautiful, warm, functional nightlight.

Built of solid blocks of stone, and towering over 100 m high, the Lighthouse of Alexandria was one of the tallest man-made structures in the world. It survived more than a thousand years until a series of earthquakes, the last in 1303, caused it to tumble into the sea. Remnants of the great lighthouse, including granite blocks, columns and statues, were rediscovered on the floor of Alexandria's harbor in 1968 and can still be seen by divers today.
The DIY wooden model Lighthouse of Alexandria by Ugears is based in large part on the surviving historical record, making this a fascinating assembly-ready replica. As the Lighthouse of Alexandria was dedicated to Zeus, our model is topped by an engraved cutout of the king of the gods, clutching a thunderbolt. Parapets, towers, catwalk and a cupola add architectural interest throughout, with laser engraving that replicates the look of stone blocks and shingles. Because it's Ugears, this static model also has a moving component: gates in the base at both front and rear that open with turning knobs.
Crafted from art-quality 3mm composite wood, the model also incorporates electrical components, bulbs and an acrylic lens. Powered either by USB-C (via phone charging) or three AA batteries, with a charging port and on/off switch at the rear of the base, your model lighthouse is warmly lit from within by two LED lights—one at the top illuminating a flame cutout behind the lens, and one inside the main tower illuminating the tower's latticework—making the Lighthouse of Alexandria not just an architectural wonder but also a cozy nightlight. At just over a foot in height (31 cm), your wooden model Lighthouse of Alexandria is the ideal size for a nightstand.
The ancient Lighthouse of Alexandria is a DIY model at the intermediate (Medium) level, with 340 parts, promising more than six hours of engaging build time. The kit includes natural composite wood parts in laser pre-cut boards, electrical components, 2 LED lights, acrylic lighthouse lens, plus a piece of sandpaper and wax for smoothing and lubricating the pieces. As with all Ugears models, you won't need glue or special tools to assemble your model Lighthouse of Alexandria. Just snap the pieces together, following step-by-step instructions in 11 languages (English, German, Ukrainian, French, Polish, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Italian, Chinese and Korean).
