Drukhari: Army Analysis

Posted By Graham Scutt on
Who are the Drukhari?

The Aeldari's cruel, decadent cousins, the Drukhari are the dark kin of the webway — raiders from the hidden city of Commorragh who descend on the galaxy in lightning-fast strikes, take what they please, and vanish before anyone can respond. They are the fastest, most lethal army in the game, built around blistering speed and surgical violence. Just don't expect them to take a punch. With Warhammer 40,000 11th Edition in full swing, the dark kin are well worth a look.

The Core Fantasy

Drukhari are the glass scalpel of the grimdark: paper-thin but devastatingly sharp. You bring a fast, aggressive raiding force that goes first, hits ruthlessly hard, and removes the enemy's best units before they can fight back. This is the fantasy of the perfect ambush — all speed, all aggression, no mercy.

Expect:

  • Breakneck speed — you almost always dictate the engagement
  • Hyper-lethal units that delete their targets when they connect
  • Three distinct flavours: raiding Kabals, melee Wych Cults and twisted Covens
  • A high-skill, high-reward playstyle that punishes any sloppiness

How They Play on the Tabletop

The Drukhari plan is fast and ruthless: race up the board, strike the key targets with overwhelming precision, and be gone before the counter-punch lands. You win the crucial early exchanges so decisively that the game tips your way — but you must play tightly, because your army folds the moment it's caught in the open.

What you'll love:

  • Speed: you control where and when every fight happens
  • Lethality: when your units land, things die — fast
  • Variety: Kabals, Wyches and Covens blend into one vicious toolkit

What can bite you:

  • Fragility: you hit like a truck but cannot take a hit like one
  • Skill floor: mistakes are punished brutally — not the gentlest first army
  • Stalling out: if your alpha strike fizzles, you can struggle to recover
Strike Fast, Leave Nothing

The Drukhari identity is speed and precision taken to a knife-edge. Few armies move faster or hit harder for their points — but few are as fragile, so timing is everything. Played well, you erase the enemy's plan before it begins; played carelessly, you watch your raiders evaporate.

They share their roots with their craftworld kin but take a far crueller path. For the elegant, more resilient side of the aeldari coin, our Aeldari army analysis is the perfect companion read; and if you'd rather an elite force that's tough as well as deadly, compare the Leagues of Votann.

Key Unit Roles (What You'll Commonly Need)

Forget memorising every datasheet. Think in jobs:

1) The Raiders (Kabalite shooting)

Mobile gunners in fast skimmers who poke holes in the enemy from range — your reliable, flexible core.

2) The Blades (Wych Cult melee)

Lightning-quick close-combat units that carve through infantry and tie up dangerous threats.

3) The Horrors (Coven monsters)

Tougher, twisted units and beasts that add staying power and a hard-hitting punch to a fragile army.

4) The Transports (speed and delivery)

Raiders and Venoms that ferry your killers exactly where they're needed — the engine of the whole army.

Getting Started the Smart Way

Building Drukhari from scratch? Speed is your whole game, so build mobile from the start. Aim for:

Step 1: A unit of Kabalites in a transport

  • Your reliable mobile shooting core. Fast, flexible, and the heart of the raiding force.

Step 2: A melee unit (Wyches)

  • Quick close-combat specialists to tie up threats and carve through infantry.

Step 3: A tougher Coven element

  • A hard-hitting, more durable unit to give your fragile army a bit of staying power.

Step 4: More transports

  • Mobility is everything — keep your killers mounted and able to strike anywhere on the board.

Cover those jobs and you've got a fast, lethal raiding force that plays to its strengths. New to the brushes? Our build-and-paint guide will get those dark, sinister schemes started.

Common Beginner Mistakes (Avoid These)
  • Sitting still. Standing in the open is a death sentence — keep moving and striking.
  • Over-committing on a bad read. Charge the wrong fight and your fragile raiders vanish. Pick your moment.
  • Forgetting to score. You can wreck their army and still lose if nobody holds objectives.
  • Leaving units exposed. Never end a turn where the enemy can punish your paper-thin models.
Who the Drukhari are For

"Choose the Drukhari if you want the fastest, most lethal army in the game — a fragile, high-skill raiding force that rewards bold, precise play and punishes hesitation. Give them a miss if you'd rather a forgiving, durable army that shrugs off mistakes; every model here lives or dies by speed and timing. Drukhari reward nerve, target priority and ruthless aggression. Strike fast — and leave nothing standing."
