Games Workshop has officially unveiled the Khazalite Holds, a brand-new duardin faction for Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Revealed at the Big Autumn Preview on 18 September and fleshed out in two Warhammer Community articles on 9 October, the launch centres on a Khazalite Holds Army Set containing a complete Spearhead force and the new battletome, followed by a second wave of kits led by a colossal High Kyng on a stone War Throne.
The other headline: the Fyreslayers are folding into the new book as the Grimmdron. Most of your slayers come with them, but seven entries, including Vulkite Berzerkers, are heading to Warhammer Legends. Games Workshop says pre-orders are coming very soon; no price or date has been confirmed at the time of writing.
Who are the Khazalite Holds?
According to Games Workshop's reveal, the Khazalites see themselves as the truest and most honourable of the duardin: traditionalists who venerate the Ancestor Gods properly and intend to clear the realms of Skaven through sheer stony stubbornness rather than trade deals or mercenary rage. Think shield walls, runic hammers and grudges, rather than airships and profit margins.
Warhammer Community's lore tour describes their home as the karak, a mountain hold split into Upper Halls (gatehouses, barracks, brewhalls and Oathkeeper cannon batteries) and lower halls called the deeps, which house the forges, the royal throne room and great Halls of Remembrance. Being forgotten is the worst fate a Khazalite can imagine, and their society is built around keeping ancestral names alive. They also believe they can hear stone itself, building resonance chambers full of gongs and horns. Yes, a whole army of dwarfs who listen to rocks. We are not complaining.
What's in the Khazalite Holds Army Set
The Army Set is a complete Spearhead army and the starting point for a wider collection. Games Workshop lists:
- Hjulda Drakkblud: the force's leader, a legendary figure who searches for lost karaks to reclaim in the hope of finding her own lost clan.
- 10 Clanshields: heavily armoured infantry carrying Kromdron axes, hammers or a mix, built to grind through enemy infantry.
- Gholems of Gazul: animated stone constructs that guard duardin tombs and march to war when a dirge of remembrance is sounded. They can alternatively be built as Gholems of Valaya.
- Oathkeeper Cannon: a rune-powered war machine that, per Games Workshop, is big enough to blow a hole through a Mega-Gargant. It can alternatively be built as a Stonebreaker Mortar.
- Battletome: Khazalite Holds: an Army Set-exclusive cover edition, plus 53 warscroll cards.
A standard edition of the battletome will follow separately at a later date, a point also noted in Frontline Gaming's coverage of the reveal.
The second wave of Khazalite Holds kits
Beyond the Army Set, Games Workshop has shown a further range of units:
- High Kyng Valankrom: the supreme ruler of the Khazalite Holds, crowned by Grungni himself, riding a magically propelled stone War Throne. The kit also builds a Thrynn on War Throne, which buffs nearby Khazalite troops.
- Thrynn and Runewright: a noble war leader in runic armour and a master of arcane rune-forging.
- Clangunners: ranged infantry armed with long thrundok rifles or close-range thrundrin shotcannons.
- Valayan Guardians: elite defenders devoted to Valaya, the ancestor goddess of hearth and home.
- Ormyr and Ashtongue: a new Fyreslayers beastmaster and his kyndledroth companion.
- Regiment of Renown: Fjori's band of exiled Grimmdron, usable by any Order army, with an Auric Flamekeeper, a Grimhold Exile and five Hearthguard Berzerkers.
- Spearhead: Magmic Fyrd: a Fyreslayers Spearhead with a Runefather on Magmadroth, a Runesmiter, nine Vulkyn Flameseekers and five Auric Hearthguard.
What happens to the Fyreslayers?
In the lore, decades of attrition and a disastrous assault on their spiritual capital by Helsmiths of Hashut and Skaven have left the slayers of Grimnir burning for revenge, and they now fight alongside the Khazalites. On the tabletop, Games Workshop's 9 October update confirms which units make the move into Battletome: Khazalite Holds:

- Staying in the battletome: Auric Runefather, Runeson and Runesmiter (on foot and on Magmadroth), Auric Flamekeeper, Grimhold Exile, Vulkyn Flameseekers, Auric Hearthguard, Hearthguard Berzerkers, and the new Ormyr and Ashtongue.
- Moving to Warhammer Legends: Vulkite Berzerkers, Auric Runemaster, Battlesmith, Doomseeker, Grimwrath Berzerker, Magmic Battleforge and Magmic Invocations.
Games Workshop says the departing units will soon come off sale but stay legal at competitive events for 12 months after the new book releases, before moving to Legends. Pure Fyreslayers armies remain possible, either by picking only Fyreslayers units or through the Fyrd of Fyrepeak Army of Renown. Losing Vulkite Berzerkers pushes the slayers towards a smaller, more elite force built on Hearthguard, Flameseekers and Magmadroths.

What it means for you
Our take: this is the first genuinely new duardin faction Age of Sigmar has had in years, and it scratches a very old itch. Shield walls, gunlines, rune-struck cannons and grudge-bearing kings are the classic dwarf fantasy many of us grew up with, and the Gholems give the range a properly fresh centrepiece.
- New to Age of Sigmar? The Army Set is a full Spearhead army plus the rules in one box, which makes it one of the easier entry points around.
- Fyreslayers players: do not panic-sell. Most of your army carries over, you have a year of competitive use for the Legends-bound units, and you gain an entire allied faction to expand into.
- Army Sets tend to move fast: if you want one, speak to us before pre-order day so we can plan stock.
Final thought: the Khazalites listen to stone, honour their ancestors and never forget a grudge. Ideal, then, for anyone still bitter about that dice roll in 2019.
