The emu is the world's second-largest bird and famously can't walk backwards — it's on the Australian coat of arms for precisely that reason: forwards only. This EUGY was made in association with the Royal Australian Mint, whose 50 cent coin the emu also graces, and it builds up in recyclable, biodegradable card.
Ages 6+ · Builds in about 10–20 minutes
What's in the box
- Pre-cut, numbered card slices — legs, neck, the lot
- A pot of non-toxic glue included
- Illustrated step-by-step instructions with emu fun facts
How it builds
- Glue the slices in number order and the long-legged shape sorts itself out
- Ten to twenty minutes, screen-free, from age six
- A must for anyone collecting EUGY's flightless birds
Done, it stands tall and faintly indignant on your shelf — a proper Aussie icon that never takes a step back.
Big bird, small box, no reverse gear. March through the complete EUGY range, or see why we reckon these kits beat screen time.
Giving back
dodoland, the New Zealand team behind EUGY, has partnered with Arid Recovery, an Australian non-profit, to support its work protecting emus and other unique species of Australia's arid north.
