Everyone's Warhammer 40,000 collection starts with a first squad, and there's no tidier way to begin than with the Angels of Death. This box hands you two Space Marines Intercessors and six Warhammer Colour paints to armour them up in the classic Ultramarines scheme. It's a low-cost, low-commitment way to find out whether you love painting before you dive into a full army — and a cracking gift for anyone eyeing up the hobby.
What's in the box
2 push-fit plastic Space Marines Intercessors, armed with bolt rifles and posed for variety
6 Warhammer Colour Base paints (12ml pots): Macragge Blue, Leadbelcher, Retributor Armour, Abaddon Black, Corax White and Mournfang Brown
1 starter brush to get the first coats down
Why it's a great first step
Push-fit assembly — no glue needed, just clippers to free the parts
All six pots are Base paints, so they cover solidly straight over the plastic
Add a Shade such as Nuln Oil when you want the edges and recesses to pop
You'll be painting within minutes of opening the box. Get these two done and you'll have the confidence — and the core colours — to take on a whole company.
Supplied unpainted; push-fit assembly, clippers not included. Pairs perfectly with the 40K Paints + Tools Set to round out your kit, or grow your Space Marines force. Weighing up where to begin? Browse the full 40K starter sets range, and our 11th edition starter sets guide compares them all.
Want the clippers in the box? The Space Marines Painting Taster bundle adds the Paints + Tools Set for around 10% less than buying them separately.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's in the Intercessors + Paints Set?
Two push-fit Space Marines Intercessors armed with bolt rifles and posed for variety, a starter brush, and six Warhammer Colour Base paints in 12ml pots: Macragge Blue, Leadbelcher, Retributor Armour, Abaddon Black, Corax White and Mournfang Brown — the classic Ultramarines scheme. All six are Base paints, so they cover solidly straight over the plastic.
Do I need glue to build the models?
No — every model in this set is push-fit. Clip the parts from the frame, push them together and they hold without glue. A pair of clippers is the only tool you'll want, and it isn't included.
Not strictly. These are heavily pigmented Base paints, made to go on smoothly straight over bare plastic, so you can open the box and start. A spray undercoat does make everything after it easier and the finish tougher — it's the first extra we'd suggest once you know you're enjoying it.
Are these the same paints as the full Citadel range?
Yes — standard 12ml pots, not a watered-down starter formula. Whatever's in the box you can buy again individually and top up as you go, and it'll behave exactly the same on the model.
It's a perfectly serviceable starter brush and it'll get these models finished. It won't hold a fine point for long, mind — a decent brush is the cheapest meaningful upgrade you can make to your painting, but it's not something to worry about on day one.
