Tufts

Tufts are the cheat code of miniature basing: ready-made clumps of grass, flowers and alien growth that peel off the sheet and stick straight onto a base. No glue, no mess, no skill required, and they make a finished model look like it's standing somewhere real.

Choosing tufts

  • Size: 2mm tiny tufts suit infantry and small scales; 4mm is the all-rounder; 6mm and taller add drama to big bases and terrain.
  • Colour: summer green for fantasy and temperate worlds, dry and dead grass for wastelands and deserts, frosted for winter bases.
  • Alien and flowering tufts: neon, turquoise and fire tones for xenos worlds, daemon realms and anything that never existed on Earth.
  • Laser-cut plants: ferns, bracken and jungle leaves for extra height and texture.

Tip: stick to two or three tuft types per army for a consistent look, and place them off-centre so they don't hide the model's feet. If one won't stay put, a dot of super glue fixes it for good.

Our picks

Tufts are the finishing touch: start with basing materials like sand and texture paint, or browse the whole Gamers Grass range.

Tufts – Instant Realistic Grass and Vegetation for Bases Grass tufts are one of the most impactful and easiest basing upgrades available to any miniature painter — pre-made clumps of static grass that can be placed on a base in seconds to create instantly realistic vegetation. Available in a huge range of heights, colours, and styles from summer green to dead autumn brown and vibrant wildflowers, tufts transform any base from flat paint to a living, breathing environment. Loaded Dice stocks a comprehensive range of tufts in our Barry, South Wales shop and online at loadeddice.uk, including the highly regarded Gamers Grass range in standard and XL sizes, flower tufts, burned grass, swamp tufts, and much more. These are among the most-used basing products in the hobby.

Frequently Asked Questions

Basing tufts are pre-made clumps of static grass and vegetation material on a self-adhesive backing, designed to be placed directly onto a miniature base for instant realistic grass and plant effects.

Most tufts are self-adhesive — simply peel from the backing and press firmly onto the base. For extra permanence, apply a small amount of superglue or PVA to the base before pressing the tuft down.

Tuft height should match the scale of your miniature and the environment you're depicting. Small 2mm tufts suit urban or close-cropped grass. Medium 4-6mm tufts are the most versatile. XL tufts create bold statement pieces on bases.

We stock tufts in summer green, autumn, dead grass, winter, swamp, burned, and many more styles. Flower tufts in various colours add colour and variety to any base.

Green summer tufts suit Space Marines, Stormcast, and Order armies. Dead and burned tufts suit Death Guard, Orks, and Chaos. Swamp tufts suit Kruleboyz and Nurgle. Choose tufts that match your army's environmental theme.

Yes — we stock a wide range of tufts including Gamers Grass in our Barry, South Wales shop and online at loadeddice.uk with fast UK dispatch.
