The pale underside blue of the Luftwaffe's desert war. RLM 78 was introduced around spring 1941 for the lower surfaces of German aircraft operating in North Africa and the Mediterranean, and it turned up on the Eastern Front too where tropical-finished machines were sent. If you're building a desert Bf 109 or Ju 87, this is the colour under the wings.
Best for
Lower surfaces of Luftwaffe tropical aircraft, 1941 onward
North Africa and Mediterranean theatres
Tropical-finished machines on the Eastern Front
Paired with RLM 79 up top it gives that unmistakable desert Luftwaffe look — then fade and dust it for a sun-baked airframe.
The desert Luftwaffe underside. Pair it with RLM 79 and RLM 80 from the AK Real Colors range.
