Tufts are the cheat code of miniature basing: ready-made clumps of grass, flowers and alien growth that peel off the sheet and stick straight onto a base. No glue, no mess, no skill required, and they make a finished model look like it's standing somewhere real.
Choosing tufts
- Size: 2mm tiny tufts suit infantry and small scales; 4mm is the all-rounder; 6mm and taller add drama to big bases and terrain.
- Colour: summer green for fantasy and temperate worlds, dry and dead grass for wastelands and deserts, frosted for winter bases.
- Alien and flowering tufts: neon, turquoise and fire tones for xenos worlds, daemon realms and anything that never existed on Earth.
- Laser-cut plants: ferns, bracken and jungle leaves for extra height and texture.
Tip: stick to two or three tuft types per army for a consistent look, and place them off-centre so they don't hide the model's feet. If one won't stay put, a dot of super glue fixes it for good.
